In your Backpack/ Rucksack:

As long as your lock is not too heavy, you can put it in your backpack. Now, it might not be the best option if you don't like carrying your bike locks. You can take any bike locks in your backpack.

Folding locks are small and don't take much of your space. In case the locks don't come with a mount holder, you can put it in a backpack. It will not weigh you down.

Now, most of the good quality chain locks are heavy. So if you are confident that you are strong enough, you can put your chain lock in your backpack. But if you are not that strong, then drop the idea of carrying it on your back as it might weigh you down, and you won't be able to ride comfortably.

Moreover, a chain bike lock will take a lot of space in your bag. So in the case of chain locks, it is not an ideal option.

On your Handlebars:

You can put your locks over your handlebars if you are okay with it coming in your way. Some mounts attach your lock directly to the handlebars. Don't worry; these will not damage your bike. But you have to be careful that it doesn't scratch your bike while riding. Well, this might not be the best permanent option.

In your Belt loop/ Belt strap Holder:

Some U locks will allow you to put those down the inside of your belt or in your belt loops. This makes transportation easier. Also, locks will not get in your way.

Purchasing a holster attachment for your belt is also a good idea if you want to store your U lock. This is a more secure and comfortable option.

In a Bike Basket/ Pannier Bag:

A bike basket or pannier bag allows you to store multiple items. And you don't have to carry them on your back. And bike locks like U lock and folding locks can fit easily into your basket.

When a folding lock is not placed securely, it might rattle inside. So for a folding lock bike basket is a better option than a backpack.

In the case of heavy chain locks, it can be dangerous to put those in your basket. Also, there is a possibility of uneven weight distribution, which will make it harder for you to control your bike while riding. Similarly, in the handlebar basket, the uneven distribution might create problems during steering.

It would be best if you put smaller chain locks in your bike basket.

Now, if you are going to the same destination every day, say your office or college or school, then it is a better option to keep your locks at the destination. Moreover, when you are using large chain locks, this option is the best!

So this is an ideal option if it supports your budget.

In Your Pocket:

The folding locks are smaller in size and can easily fit in your pocket. Folding locks that don't come with a mount holder can be put in your pocket.

However, not all folding locks are small; some are larger too. In the case of larger locks, you should go for other options.

Your Waist or Shoulder:

Some chain locks are to be worn around the waist likeā€”the Hiplok Gold. This way, you get easy access for quick lock-ups. Other kinds can be worn around the shoulder like the Kryptonite Messenger and Moly Lock. But this isn't a comfy alternative for you.
